Miles to Empty: Shannon Goff

Tuesday, August 26, 2014 to Saturday, October 18, 2014

Description

AUG 26 OCT 18 | Ralph Arnold Gallery | Free
Opening Reception: SEP 4 | Thurs. 5-6:30 PM | Free

Reconfiguring antiquated yet iconic forms to initiate a conversation about the present, artist Shannon Goff will craft from cardboard a full-scale American icon, a 1979 Lincoln Continental Mark V automobile. Using the automobile as a metaphor for the complexities of American life, Goff attempts to steer viewers to re-examine American societys fixations on power, luxury, convenience and autonomy.

Shannon Goff works with sculpture, ceramics, and drawing. Her work, often large scale, typically employs clay or cardboard. Goff received a BFA from University of Michigan, pursued post baccalaureate studies at Kyoto Seika University in Japan, and received an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2003. She currently lives and works in State College, PA, where she is an assistant professor of sculpture and ceramics at Penn State University. Her work has been included in multiple exhibitions throughout the world including Beijing, Berlin, and Chicago.
